Scout Band

The Lincoln District Scout Band is a Scout Active Support Unit within Lincoln District Scouts.

We meet at Westgate School Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm

We provide musical opportunities for members of Scouting and Guiding within the Lincoln area. Newcomers don’t have to be able to play an instrument, although experience is always nice. We are not music teachers and can only pass on what we know.

Our youth members have to be a serving member of the scouts or guides, so will come to rehearsal nights as well as their own section nights. Adult members generally have other roles within scouting or guiding, but can be a member of the band as their scouting role. All adults are volunteers.

The band is self-funded via yearly subscriptions and payments for performances. The money goes towards the cost of rehearsal rooms (our biggest outlay), upkeep of instruments, provision of uniforms and travel expenses.

We also like to present trophies at the end of the year to say ‘well done and keep it up’ to our hard working young people. These are engraved from year to year.

Our main event of the year is providing the lead band for the Lincoln District Scouts annual St Georges Day Parade. We work hard to give a good show for this showcase event.

Other events we have done include leading the parade for the Saxilby Christmas lights turn on and we have travelled to Peterborough and Sutton-on-sea to lead their carnivals.

We have also travelled abroad, the highlights from recent years being Salzburg where we were able to follow in the footsteps of ‘The Sound of Music’ and play for the public at the Residenzplatz Square & Residence Fountain; and France where we played at the visitors centre at Pegasus Bridge.
